Managing Pervasive Environment Privacy Using the "fair trade" Metaphor
نویسندگان
چکیده
This article presents a proposal for managing privacy in pervasive environments. These environments are capable of sensing personal information anywhere and at anytime. This implies a risk to privacy that might not be assumed if a clear and trustable privacy management model is not provided. However, since this kind of environments posses a set of highly heterogeneous sensing techniques, even basic privacy policies require a great management effort. Therefore, there is a tradeoff between providing automatic privacy configuration mechanisms and granting trustable privacy management models. Following the ”fairtrade” metaphor, this paper presents a privacy solution dealing with user’s privacy as a tradable good for obtaining environment’s services. Thus, users gain access to more valuable services as they share more personal information. This strategy, combined with optimistic access control and transactions registries mechanisms, enhances users’ confidence in the system while encouraging them to share their information, with the consequent benefit for the community.

Fair Trade Metaphor as a Control Privacy Method for Pervasive Environments: Concepts and Evaluation
This paper presents a proof of concept from which the metaphor of "fair trade" is validated as an alternative to manage the private information of users. Our privacy solution deals with user's privacy as a tradable good for obtaining environmental services. Thus, users gain access to more valuable services as they share more personal information. This strategy, combined with optimistic access c...

In the near future, everyday objects like cars and home appliances will connect the living environment to information networks. Pervasive computing devices will allow applications to gather and share a large amount of information. This may then open up a market for a large range of new services and applications. With a world densely populated by ‘smart dust’ [1] sensor devices, no single part o...
متن کاملA Conceptual Framework and Principles for Trusted Pervasive Health
BACKGROUND Ubiquitous computing technology, sensor networks, wireless communication and the latest developments of the Internet have enabled the rise of a new concept-pervasive health-which takes place in an open, unsecure, and highly dynamic environment (ie, in the information space). To be successful, pervasive health requires implementable principles for privacy and trustworthiness. OBJECT...

such as media spaces, have to manage a trade-off between gaining some awareness of colleagues' ongoing activities and the risk posed to their own personal privacy by being 'on permanent display'. UMCEs involve pervasive, continuous and heterogeneous connections between people and spaces. In order to learn more about the mechanisms underlying this trade-off, we studied a UMCE in the form of a mi...
متن کاملUbiquitous Security: Privacy versus Protection
In the ambient computing future, security promises to be the foundational design feature that allows pervasive systems to protect personal information privacy. As fledgling pervasive computing systems gain a foothold presence in becoming more flexible and, at the same time, more invisibly interconnected, system users may have to trade privacy and protection to gain full entry into this new info...
